Denzel Dumfries is the only Inter linchpin seriously at risk of being sold in the summer because of his uncertain contractual situation. His deal is up in 2025, and the Nerazzurri won’t take any chances and cut bait if they don’t come to terms.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the brass is putting pressure on the fullback. They want a definitive answer on the renewal in mid-May so they can start planning ahead. If it’s negative, they’ll look for a new option on the right. They have Matteo Darmian and Tajon Buchanan, but they don’t believe that the latter is ready for a major role. Moreover, he might be a better fit for the left wing.

Inter and the entourage of Dumfries, who’s represented by Rafaela Pimenta, were very distant on the numbers during the talks back in November. His agent asked to double his wages from €2.5M to €5.5M annually. The executives didn’t take it well but tried to find some common ground afterward.

The Nerazzurri have tendered €4M annually, Federico Dimarco’s wages, in their latest and likely final offer. Two years would be added to his deal. The Dutchman hasn’t responded and perhaps started inquiring about other teams. He’ll have to do it soon. The club paid €12.5M to sign him from PSV in 2021 and would eventually look to turn at least a €20M profit.

Our Take on Inter and Dumfries

It’s a fair stance by the management. The outcome hinges on the outside interest.
