The Minnesota Timberwolves were supposed to finish the 2023-24 season as the two-seed in the Western Conference. Anthony Edwards and the rest of the roster played impressive basketball throughout the season, and nobody could take away just how good they have been as a team.
However, they will face a tough challenge in the first round of the playoffs. The Phoenix Suns have been tricky opponents that they haven’t beaten in the three times they crossed paths this season. The last game of the season kicked them off the second seed into third after they didn’t stop Bradley Beal from doing whatever he wanted on the court.
Any Timberwolves fan would be worried that they would face a team they struggled against all season in the first round of the playoffs. However, their marquee star is doing what any good superstar does: let everyone know how he isn’t worried about their regular-season struggles against the Suns.
Anthony Edwards believes the Minnesota Timberwolves can take the game to the Phoenix Suns
The Georgia product answered questions about his team’s upcoming series against the Suns. The regular-season record was naturally brought up, and the media asked him if his Wolves can win against them when it really counts.
Edwards was supremely confident with his answer. Even teammate Rudy Gobert pitched in with his thoughts.
“Hell yeah. Hell yeah,” he said, via NBA reporter Dane Moore. “They won three games in the regular season, regular season over with now. We got the postseason, so we’ll be ready to go.”
“Regardless of who we play, nothing’s going to be given to us,” Gobert said, via Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. “That’s the beauty of it. That’s why we want to be where we want to be. We want to win a championship. It’s going to be hard. That’s great. Let’s get to it.”
It will be tough for the Wolves to stop a three-headed dragon of Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant if all of them get into red-hot shooting. However, Edwards has shown that he can keep up with the best of them. He’s averaging 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists a game while shooting 46% on the field and 36% from deep.
He showcased throughout the regular season that he can take over and produce special moments when he’s feeling his shot. He will cause as many problems for Frank Vogel’s defensive game plans as much as his stars will have Chris Finch scratching his head on how he will neuter their three-pronged offense.
